About the Process:
My paintings honor the resilience of the people hard at work in the manufacturing industry and the resilience of southern manufacturing itself. I begin each painting with a site visit where I take hundreds of photographs of people in their work space and the architecture surrounding them. Back in the studio, I study the photos and select four or five options that have the best perspective. Using the photographs as my references, I paint with oil in a realistic style. Capturing the details and tools surrounding each worker is essential to give the viewer clues to decipher a manufacturing scene, and convey the richness of the story. The figure in each painting also serves to give a sense of scale to the enormity of the buildings and structures around them.
